Annapolis?
Do you think this conference a success? If so, to what extent? If not, what could be successful?
This conference is useful in that they are finally talking after many years, but hesitate to call it "success." I think it will be many, many years before they ever see anything significantly positive for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Before any chance of real progress, the leaders of Palestine, Israel and neighboring Arab countries would have to really want peace, that is not the case now. Iran is too much of a nuclear threat and the goals of Hamas and Hezbollah have already expressed their desire to do everything possible to disrupt any positive trend in terms of the Middle East conflict resolution. Is it good that they're talking about? Yes, the Middle East is in a weak position, swinging no matter what happens this week, and now in that area leaders have the support of peace in order to stand against the jihadis, who prefer to die at the hatred they see as a compromise for the sake of their lives and the lives of many, many others. The leaders and citizens of those countries have to want peace enough to fight for it, and now Hamas, Hezbollah and others have very strong support in that region, too strong Annapolis to expect anything to change for the better in the near future.
