Is there a specific term in anthropology which means that people who share similar interests stick?

I went through my anthropology text book and I can not seem to find, but I feel there is a specific term for this. I'm trying to explain that people who are similar, either through their language, race, etc. gravitate towards each other and stick together.

I believe there is, but I do not think that is specific to anthropology and is a little old. "Association" is what comes to mind but I can not remember exactly. The term (I'll update if I remember best) was used to discuss how European societies during the modern (nineteenth century onwards), developed a social / cultural value that people can choose from free will which unite the social groups (eg darts club, or union). This contrasted with, I think, secondment, in which people associate only with other members of social groups to which you attached / assigned their identity, often by birth (kinship group, for example, caste). This may not be exactly what you're thinking, but I do not know any term that is applied in any cultural context, as a term used to differentiate (with the prejudice) European society of "the rest". Do not believe there is any support recent anthropological, or interest in the idea that "people that are similar, whether through language, race, etc, they gravitate toward one another stick together ".
