I need to hard wire my car cig lighter to the battery?

Everyone says everything you need to do is to connect the field to something metal and run a cable from the power supply cable to the positive terminal of my battery. It seemed simple enough. The problem is that it is not working. Anyone have any suggestions or links I could look to see if I'm doing wrong? The plug and cable are brand new.

Earth is the case out of the positive is the connector on the center if u are trying to hot wire the original, which might not be out the wiring, but a bad outlet or lighter? heres some advice get a view of the hook test to a land (not the socket) check to see if it lights when the probe or the center pin hot wire if u have the power lights.
