Need a 3G data plan for the IPAD to use the GPS software on it?

Hello, I was wondering that if I buy an iPhone 3G without a plan IPAD data might I can still use the GPS software that Apple has put into it? Or are based on the 3G network? Just thinking that might make a useful IPAD kit GPS, as well as an additional tool for the home. Thank you very much too – saying that you do not need a 3G data plan to use GPS – GPS would be faster if you have a 3G data plan?

There are two types of GPS. Real iPhone GPS and assisted GPS. IPAD is not real GPS. The 3G version however, has assisted GPS works using cell towers. Due to the way it works you need a SIM card in it, and I suspect it would be, but I can not be sure, also a plan. If that's all I wanted to please take a look at the T-Mobile plans to have EDGE only.
