Here is something I find puzzling. I often meeting where the media projects the voice over artist is regarded as the last element of production. Voice recording is the icing on the cake, is not even the candle on the cake. Voice recording is the party that no one can find just as everything is ready and the customer is waiting for the presentation of the cake.
"Who has a match?" Does anyone carry matches? Who will read this script? "
I've been a voice over talent from the last century, and I admit, I am extremely attuned to the voices. I listen carefully to every voice-over that I am and despite their strengths and weaknesses. I urge my readers who are as obsessed as I am concerned, but I want to point out how their message will be greatly enhanced by the voice of the right.
No I can tell you how many times I've been contacted by a frenzied media producer who needs the voice of your project NOW, preferably yesterday. All items visual, writing, music, post-everything is ready to go as soon as I record the voice. While I am happy to be hired, it feels like voice-over is considered like a child wrap up the details, such as buying a business kit at Staples. How often do producers consider the voice as the simple reading? How often do you think, 'I know this voice-over guy or girl can provide rapid return', as if the convenience were the main consideration for good voice-over?
Stop and think for a moment about the importance and influence of the human voice. It's been called the most versatile instrument on earth. We are all easy to detect when someone is upset, excited or disinterested, just by listening to bending and timbre of her voice. We recognize and identify the subtleties of the hundreds of different voices. Even if we have not heard the voice of a person for years, her voice can run our memory as effectively as a image.
Humans respond to human voice, we do instinctively and instantly. In fact, respond to voices before they hatch. Similar to music, voices shake the feelings. The sound of a voice can raise or lower blood pressure. Consider the power has a voice to soothe, amuse, irritate or bore us. Voices to convey complex emotions and communicate much more than mere words.
Forgive the obvious truism of this statement, but the voice is a powerful tool for communication. So do not overlook the possibilities of the voice to enhance your message. Of course, nobody can talk. But can 'nobody' sustaining attention the listener? Not your project requires a 'somebody', not a 'somebody' to do the voiceover?
Take the time to launch their projects audio. Most professional voice talents audition for you with pleasure. Plan time to find and hire the right voice, the voice that best reaches your audience. From advertising to art and everything in between, voice-over is important.
No more, "Does anyone carry matches? Who will read this script? Party supplies and keep the box full!
